Speaker Romualdez backs EO on independent infra commission: ‘House will never be a sanctuary for corruption’.

SPEAKER Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez on Thursday expressed full support for President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s executive order creating the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI), stressing that the House of Representatives will never be a refuge for corruption.

SPEAKER Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez on Thursday expressed full support for President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s executive order creating the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI), stressing that the House of Representatives will never be a refuge for corruption.

“I fully support [the President’s] decisive move in signing Executive Order No. 94, creating the [ICI]. This shows our shared resolve to confront irregularities and strengthen public trust in government projects,” Speaker Romualdez said.

He said the ICI is the proper response to allegations of irregularities in flood control programs that have caused widespread public frustration and eroded trust in government projects.

”I understand the concerns raised about alleged irregularities in flood control programs. These reports have caused pain and frustration among our people, and it is right that they be investigated thoroughly,” he said.

Speaker Romualdez vowed that the House “will extend its full cooperation to the ICI so that truth can prevail, accountability can be pursued and reforms can be put in place.”

According to the House chief, Filipinos demand truth and justice, not excuses.

“Hustisya ang hangad ng taumbayan, hindi palusot. Kaya’t kailangan natin ng isang independent, patas at masusing imbestigasyon. ‘Yung walang kinikilingan, walang pinoprotektahan, at tanging katotohanan lamang ang isinusulong,” he pointed out.

The Speaker warned that any member of Congress implicated in the probe will face accountability.

“If the Commission’s investigation finds that some Members of the House conspired with public works officials in anomalous projects, I assure the Filipino people: the House under my leadership will never be a sanctuary for corruption,” Speaker Romualdez declared.

“Mahalaga rito ang pananagutan. Managot ang dapat managot. Higit sa lahat, dapat manatili ang tiwala ng tao sa kanilang pamahalaan. Ang isyu dito: transparency at accountability,” he added.

Speaker Romualdez emphasized that the Commission’s work must ensure fairness by upholding due process while restoring credibility to government institutions.

“This process is not about casting blame, but about ensuring fairness. Due process will protect the innocent as much as it will hold the guilty to account,” Speaker Romualdez pointed out.

“The Commission’s work will help separate fact from speculation, and this will allow both government and the public to move forward with clarity and renewed trust,” Speaker Romualdez concluded.
